“Jungle” (2017) is a survival drama film directed by Greg McLean, based on the true story of Yossi Ghinsberg’s harrowing adventure in the Amazon rainforest. The movie stars Daniel Radcliffe as Yossi, portraying the Israeli adventurer’s struggle to survive in the dense and treacherous wilderness after a trip with friends goes terribly wrong. The film is adapted from Ghinsberg’s memoir “Jungle: A Harrowing True Story of Survival,” which recounts his incredible ordeal in the 1980s.
Yossi Ghinsberg (Daniel Radcliffe) is a young adventurer looking for a life-changing experience. He embarks on a backpacking trip to Bolivia in the early 1980s, where he meets Marcus (Joel Jackson) and Kevin (Alex Russell). The trio is later joined by Karl (Thomas Kretschmann), a mysterious Austrian guide who promises to lead them deep into the uncharted Amazon to discover hidden indigenous tribes and treasure.
Excited by the promise of adventure, the group ventures into the jungle, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. As the journey progresses, it becomes increasingly clear that Karl may not be the trustworthy guide he seemed, and the jungle itself proves to be a hostile and unforgiving environment. After a series of misfortunes and accidents, Yossi becomes separated from his companions and is left alone to survive.
What follows is a gripping and intense account of Yossi’s fight to stay alive in the Amazon. Struggling with hunger, exposure to the elements, and dangerous wildlife, Yossi is pushed to the brink both physically and mentally. He is plagued by hallucinations, exhaustion, and injury, but his will to survive never wavers. The film powerfully depicts the human spirit’s resilience and determination in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
