Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) is the sixth installment in the Terminator franchise, directed by Tim Miller and produced by James Cameron, who returns to the series after a long hiatus. The film serves as a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), effectively ignoring the events of the previous sequels. It marks the return of iconic characters such as Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and the T-800 Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger), alongside a new cast of characters.
Set decades after the events of Judgment Day, the film introduces Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes), a young woman living in Mexico City whose life is turned upside down when she becomes the target of a deadly new Terminator model, the Rev-9 (Gabriel Luna). The Rev-9 is an advanced machine capable of separating into two lethal entitiesβits endoskeleton and its liquid metal exteriorβmaking it a nearly unstoppable killing force.
To protect Dani, Grace (Mackenzie Davis), a cybernetically enhanced soldier from the future, arrives just in time to defend her. Grace, who is human but has been augmented with enhanced strength, speed, and endurance, is on a mission to ensure Dani’s survival, as her role in the future is critical for the survival of humanity.
The group soon joins forces with Sarah Connor, who has spent years hunting down Terminators since her son Johnβs death. As they struggle to survive against the relentless pursuit of the Rev-9, they seek out the T-800, now living under the alias “Carl.” This version of the T-800 has aged and developed a sense of conscience, leading to an unlikely alliance in their fight against the Rev-9.
