“Terra Nova” (2011)

“Terra Nova” (2011) is a science fiction television series that aired on Fox. Created by Kelly Marcel and Craig Silverstein, the show is notable for its ambitious premise, involving time travel, dinosaurs, and a futuristic society. Despite its high production values and strong fan interest, “Terra Nova” only lasted for one season, consisting of 13 episodes.

Set in the year 2149, Earth is on the brink of environmental collapse due to overpopulation and pollution. To save humanity, scientists discover a rift in time that allows people to travel 85 million years into the past during the prehistoric era of the Cretaceous period. A colony known as “Terra Nova” is established as humanity’s last hope, where settlers aim to build a new civilization and avoid the mistakes that led to Earth’s downfall.

The series primarily follows the Shannon family—Jim Shannon (Jason O’Mara), a former police officer; his wife, Dr. Elisabeth Shannon (Shelley Conn); and their three children, Josh, Maddy, and Zoe—as they join the Terra Nova colony. The family must adapt to their new life in a dangerous world filled with prehistoric predators while navigating the challenges of the new society, which includes political intrigue, conflicts with other factions, and secrets about the time portal.
