The OA (2016)
The OA (2016) is a mystery-drama television series created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, with Marling also starring in the lead role. The show is known for its complex narrative, blending elements of science fiction, fantasy, and psychological drama.
The story begins when Prairie Johnson (played by Brit Marling), a young blind woman, reappears after being missing for seven years. Upon her return, she now mysteriously has her sight restored. Prairie, who now calls herself “The OA” (Original Angel), refuses to explain to her adoptive parents and the authorities where she has been or how she regained her sight.
Instead, Prairie gathers a group of five locals—four high school students and a teacher—and begins to tell them her incredible story. She reveals that she was held captive by a scientist, Dr. Hap (played by Jason Isaacs), who conducted cruel experiments on her and other captives, all of whom had near-death experiences. The series explores themes of life, death, and the possibility of multiple dimensions as Prairie teaches the group a series of mysterious movements that she claims can open a portal to another dimension.
